Jamie Primrose

Jamie PrimroseJamie Primrose is one of Scotland’s most talented contemporary landscape, seascape and cityscape artists.

Born and brought up in Edinburgh, whilst still at school he was awarded First Prize in the ISCis Exhibition if Independent Schools, Scotland and the Senior Art Prize and Cheyne Art Prize for Painting at The Edinburgh Academy. Jamie then graduated with a BA Honours in Fine Art from Newcastle University in 1994. Following many years working in London and abroad, Jamie returned to Scotland, picked up his paintbrushes once again and became a professional contemporary Scottish artist in 2003.

Jamie’s trademark is the magical play of light from the sky onto land or water. In his works he encapsulates and expresses the changing atmosphere, light and colour – either in the form of a landscape, seascape or cityscape. Working in oils and Indian inks he focuses on the most transient, atmospheric times of day – sunrise and sunset.

Although he has a passion for the Scottish landscape, and is inspired by the unique quality of light in Scotland and the rich tradition of Scottish landscape painting, many further European locations feature in the artist’s work, including London, Paris, Venice, Rome and the Tuscan landscape.

Since 2003, Jamie has been making a name for himself and has been featured regularly in the press (in addition to his Jolomo Award Finalist nomination in 2007), including The Times, Guardian, Scotland on Sunday, The Glasgow Herald, Artmag, i-on Magazine and Homes and Interiors Scotland. He was also chosen by Scotland on Sunday’s Spectrum Magazine as one of their ‘Rising Stars’ in late 2006 and was featured as an outstanding up-and-coming painter in the artist profile: ‘Jamie Primrose: A Rose in Bloom’ in The Glasgow Herald, May 2007.
